Capital Area Food Bank

Tuesday, 22 November 2011

As the Holiday Season approaches and we see an outpouring of support for those in need and Kristen and I were fortunate enough to spend the afternoon volunteering at the Capital Area Food Bank - DC.  What an amazing facility and amazing people that work and volunteer there year round.  We thought we’d be bagging up cans and boxes of food but never imagined the fresh produce that they work so hard to get. The sweet smell of onions - the fresh greens… what a treat in sight and smell…

The Capital Area Food Bank was founded in 1980 to feed area residents but has grown into so much more.  As THE largest non profit for nutrition, they distribute up to 30 million tons of food to the Metro area annually.  They work with grocery stores, farmers and people like you and I, to aid those less fortunate but not only do they distribute food, they offer workshops on shopping, partnering, etc…    It was a long but very rewarding day.

As we consider what we are thankful for this year, I add the Food Bank and their tireless forces to my list.  Just one can of food is all it takes….

Please consider hosting your own food drive or volunteering.  For more information, please visit www.capitalareafoodbank.org and see what difference they make.
